Improving Patient Care using TeleRadiology

Required Components

PACS
Picture Archival and Communications System to store and forward digital MR, Nuclear Medicine, PET scan and Ultrasound images to the remote Radiologist's home computer. Most modern Radiology PACS vendors have the ability to save digital images on a central computer for access by multiple viewing stations throughout the Medical Center.
Internet Access
A high speed dedicated connection to the internet is required to transmit images to Radiologist's home computers and for specialty consultations.  Your information technology department can assist you in determining what type and how fast your internet connection is.  If you don't have one, we can add this as a part of the installation.
Firewall / VPN
A firewall is used by companies to protect themselves from unauthorized users on the internet and a VPN (Virtual Private Network) is when information is transmitted over the internet in an encrypted tunnel instead of installing a more costly private point-to-point network.  Our installation experts would determine the best implementation strategy for your organization.  VPN products are available from Cisco, RedCreek and CryptoCard.

DSL/Cable Modem/Satellite
High speed, always on internet technology available for home or business typically costs between $40-$70 monthly.  Bidirectional Satellite dish service now available and affordably priced for staff that don't live in area serviced by DSL or Cable.  If some of your staff already have high speed internet access, then all they need is a VPN connection to the corporate office.
Personal Computer
Each home user will require a Pentium class computer with Windows 95/98/2000, a network card and at least a 17" color monitor.  A machine like this can be purchased directly from Dell Computer Corp starting at $1200.
